at our Salt Lake City Campus
ABOUT THE PROGRAM | The Ballet West Academy Professional Training Division was created in 2009 by Ballet West artistic director Adam Sklute for the purpose of extending a dancer’s formal training post-graduation. The Professional Training Division is by audition or invitation only and each dancer commits to a contracted year of study with the program.
This elite and talented group of young dancers experience an expanded schedule of technique classes, rehearsals and optional coaching in addition to regular Academy classes.
Ballet West has developed relationships with several educational partners, so that students in the PTD program can complete their high school education in a time frame that allows them to pursue a rigorous study of ballet. Options include both online schooling and traditional classroom instruction.
It is the intent of the Academy director, faculty and artistic staff of Ballet West to provide the highest caliber training with a universal approach to insure that each dancer is prepared to take their place in an ever changing dance world. Upon completion of the Trainee program these dancers posses all of the qualities necessary to dance in Ballet West II or many other outstanding dance companies around the world.
PROFESSIONAL TRAINING DIVISION | Placement by Audition
PTDs will participate in Ballet West’s production of The Nutcracker and are eligible to participate in other Ballet West productions such as the children’s series and Ballet West’s main subscription series, in addition to participation in the Academy’s spring concert.

TRAINEE DIVISION | Placement by Audition
Trainees participate in Ballet West and Ballet West II rehearsals and tour with Ballet West for Children. Senior trainees perform in Ballet West’s “The Nutcracker” and the Ballet West Children’s Series.

Trainees are selected by audition and at the invitation of Ballet West artistic director Adam Sklute. If you are interested in being considered, please attend one of our yearly auditions (more information can be found through the 'Click Here for Audition Information' link above) or contact the Ballet West Academy Director to arrange a time to audition for the program.

Trainee students will also be required to stay for company rehearsals until 6:45 pm or later during productions as called.
