Student Division Levels 1 through 8 are designed for students ages 10 and up. Ballet West Academy promotes a healthy and nurturing approach. Classes follow a carefully constructed, comprehensive curriculum, designed to provide the skills necessary to pursue a career in dance. Students perform in the Ballet West Academy Winter, Spring, and Contemporary Showcases.

Utah County

Ballet levels 1 through 8 in Pleasant Grove, Utah, is designed for students ages 10 and up. Placement are determined by placement only. Acceptance and placement are determined by an audition held before the new fall season, or an audition can be arranged with the Campus Principal. Promotions are considered on an individual basis and determined in part by an examination demonstrated at the end of the school year and an evaluation by the Ballet West Academy Director and Principal of the Campus. Students in this division can expect to spend more than one year in each level.

Level 1

  • Upon placement in Level 1, students begin to experience the satisfaction of a more comprehensive knowledge of the Ballet West Academy syllabus, and the ability to execute its principles. The emphasis in this level is the development of the “whole child”. Along with continued progress in their physical development, students enjoy a more detailed curriculum.

Level 3

  • Level 3 prepares the serious dance student for entrance to the Upper School. Students in this level begin to understand a commitment to excellence and the desire to achieve their “personal best”. It is at this stage in a child’s training that we begin to see them emerge as young artists. We continue to build on each student’s natural abilities while emphasizing strength, stamina and technical accomplishment. In addition to technique and conditioning classes, the students add modern dance to their program. Boys focus on boy’s techniques while girls at this level are carefully evaluated and typically placed on pointe. With support and guidance students progress at a pace tailored to match their individual needs.

Level 4

  • Upon completing the essential requirements of training and successfully demonstrating appropriate skill level and maturity, students are ready for a more intense and challenging course of study in Level 4. Female students at this level must show a structural capacity for pointe work and all students must possess ample strength and stamina.  All of the classes in our comprehensive curriculum are designed to best provide the skills necessary to pursue a career in dance. We believe in a healthy and nurturing approach to the development of each student. As the level of difficulty increases, so does the passion for the pursuit for excellence. As a result, every student’s advancement through the program is based on their ability rather than their age.

Level 5

  • Level 5 is the entry into the upper school of the Ballet West Academy. Female students at this level must have strong pointe work at barre and center. Male students will continue to have specialized classes in male technique. Supplemental classes in modern, conditioning, and pas de deux help to round out the curriculum for these students to better prepare them for the versatile demands of the professional ballet career.

  • Offered for teens who want to improve their ballet technique. Students attending this class are those who want to deepen ballet skills without the demands of a rigorous ballet school schedule or serious ballet students that are interested in more technique assistance.  This class will enhance flexibility and strength and offers personalized attention to help the student build a stronger technical foundation.

  • This class is designed for students to improve various styles of dance to make themselves more marketable in the professional commercial dance industry.  Hip Hop, Jazz, Jazz Funk are all included in this class blend of fun and technique.  This class will help develop skills to help master the versatility and flair required for the high-energy environment of music videos, commercials, and live performances.

Student Division students (Levels 6-8) have the opportunity to audition for the Current Contemporary Performing Ensemble, the official contemporary group of the Ballet West Academy.
